Why Should You Switch to Natural Skin Care Products?

natural holistic ingredients and products

When it comes to skincare, what you put on your skin matters! This is the same principle with regards to the foods and fluids we consume. - Health is wealth right?!

The sad truth is business is business for the big global brands like Estée Lauder, Clinique, Olay, Dove, Johnson & Johnson, Unilever, L'OREAL, Palmolive, Revlon.

The ingredients that they incorporate into their products to either change the texture, fragrance, colour, bulk product volume or simply due to these ingredients being cheap - they use toxic chemicals, preservatives, fillers, colourants, synthetic fragrances and more, in which are all unhealthy and should not be consumed or used on our skin!

Fun Fact: Our Skin is the largest organ in the body and covers the body's entire external surface. It is made up of three layers, the epidermis, dermis, and the hypodermis, all three of which vary significantly in their anatomy and function.

Here are some compelling reasons to opt for natural and organic skin care products:

Less Exposure to Chemicals:

  • If you have sensitive skin, you know how easily it can get irritated by products containing chemicals.

  • Chemicals are toxic and dangerous!

  • Natural and organic skincare products are gentle and kind to your skin, avoiding harsh ingredients that can cause dryness, redness, and soreness or even allergic reactions.

  • Ingredients like zinc oxide and lavender extract in natural products promote healing and nourishment. Essential Oils are a great way to add healing, scent and colour naturally to our products!

Safer for Your Body:

  • Our skin absorbs what we apply to it. Chemical toxins from conventional skincare products can harm our bodies.

  • Opting for natural products made from flower and plant extracts ensures nourishment and protection without harmful effects.

Inadequate Safety Testing:

  • Standard skincare products are not always adequately tested for safety.

  • Natural and organic products, on the other hand, rely on time-tested ingredients that have stood the test of time.

  • At Amore Designs we ensure that all our products are tested by real people and by a variety of individuals of all ages, backgrounds and ethnicities - including those who have sensitive skin, problems with severe allergies and intolerances etc.

Big Businesses & Toxic Chemicals

As we are aware, unfortunately not all skincare companies prioritize safety. Some use toxic chemicals in their products such as:

Parabens:

  • Commonly used as preservatives, parabens can mimic estrogen and interfere with reproductive and brain function.

  • Research links them to breast cancer.

Phthalates:

  • Found in nail polishes, perfumes, and lotions, phthalates are reproductive and developmental toxins.

Synthetic Colours:

  • Derived from petroleum or coal tar, synthetic colours can cause skin irritations, acne breakouts, and even ADHD.

Fragrance:

  • Fragrances in soaps, shampoos, and other products contain chemicals associated with respiratory disorders and skin allergies.

Mineral Oils

  • Mineral oil is a by-product of dangerous crude oils. It is often contaminated with other chemicals.

  • The most known mineral oils are petrolatum and paraffin oil.

  • Petroleum is used in Vaseline and many other products including baby moisturisers etc

  • The good news is there are endless natural alternatives to mineral oil. For example: Coconut oil, avocado oil, grapeseed oil, and jojoba oil are all healthy and natural

SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) or SLE (Sodium Laureth Sulfate)

  • SLS/SLE are compounds formed from petroleum and plant sources such as palm oil. They are used in skincare products to create a lather when used on your skin, such as shampoo, body wash, face wash, mouthwash and toothpaste.

  • Adding these compounds gives us the illusion of being cleaned because we associate soapy suds with cleanliness.

PEGS (polyethylene glycol)

  • PEGS (polyethylene glycol) are tiny plastic beads which are used in various products such as face, lip and body scrubs, as well as toothpaste. They are used because they are gentler on the skin than more grainy natural exfoliators like walnut shells or rice.

  • When it is used on our skin, polyethylene acts as a skin irritant and can cause major skin issues. Not only can PEGs cause skin irritation, but they are also often contaminated with 1,4-dioxane during processing, which is considered a potential human carcinogen and can cause kidney and liver damage.

  • PEGs are also bad for the environment, as these plastic beads are polluting our oceans, as they are not filtered out by our sewage systems. This means that they can be consumed and is causing great harm to our marine life and fish, which in turn means that we humans are also unintentionally consuming these plastic beads when we eat the fish or other foods that come from the ocean!
